Pelvic Floor Therapy

What can I expect during my initial evaluation?

  • First, we’ll ask you about your pelvic health journey, symptoms, pregnancy & childbirth history, bladder & bowel habits, stress level, history of low back pain, history of hip pain, diet & fluid intake, and sexual concerns (pain/discomfort).
  • Then we will assess your posture, breathing, spine, hips, and gait, much like a typical therapy evaluation.
  • If pelvic floor dysfunction is likely based on our findings, then an internal examination of the pelvic floor muscles is highly recommended to assess the muscles inside of the pelvic girdle. This is similar to a gynecological examination, but we do not use a speculum. Your therapist will manually assess your muscles with one gloved finger. You are in control of your evaluation. If you feel uncomfortable at any time during your evaluation, let your therapist know and that information can be gathered another way.

Still not sure?
